How to Stay Motivated When You Feel Low

There will always be days in our lives when we feel very down, unable to function well, and can’t even accomplish little things. No matter how much we try, we feel unmotivated to work. We just want to lay down on our beds, tuck ourselves in our comfy blankets, and sleep through the day. However, that’s normal. Everybody goes through bad days, and surely you can overcome them. But how can you feel motivated when you are feeling down?

Here are some ways you can follow, to help you get through the “low” days and still be motivated.

READ SOME WORDS OF AFFIRMATION

This is important when you are feeling low. Reading some words of affirmations and telling yourself that you are going to be fine could help get through the day. Mantras could help you brush off all the negative thoughts in your head. Starting your day with positivity will help you move forward towards your goal.

TAKE BABY STEPS

Being productive when you are at your lowest could be quite difficult. So, to accomplish things, you must set your goals low. You would not function like you normally would, so it is important to make small steps. Completing a small goal like cleaning your room or washing the dishes can be very rewarding. After all, it is better to take a small leap than none.

DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP

You should never blame yourself for being lazy and not being able to accomplish tasks. Always remember, those bad days are normal. Beating yourself up might cause you to feel more like crap, and that would not help during these times. Be more patient and understanding of yourself. Encourage yourself to do better because that will help you survive the crappy day.

ENGAGE IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Engaging in physical activities and exercising can help you boost your energy. It might help you become more active and energized throughout the day. According to some studies, doing any kinds of physical activities at least three to five times a week that lasts for 30 minutes to an hour could make you less prone to depression.

ASK FOR A SUPPORT

It is very hard to keep things only to yourself. This would just worsen your feeling, and you will be prone to breakdowns. Having someone you can confide in is important to let out your anger and frustrations, and trust me, it would make you feel much better. Your family and your friends’ comfort during your lowest could help make you feel good.

FOLLOW A SCHEDULE OR A ROUTINE

Sticking to a routine will help you feel that you have control over your life. Make a list of the things you do in a day and stick to that list no matter what happens. Put a check on tasks that you have completed. That way, you would feel very accomplished, and you will feel motivated to finish all your tasks.

EAT YOUR COMFORT FOOD

Some people eat when they are stress. It helps them feel better and do better. Food can be a great comfort when you are feeling down. Eat your favorite desserts, drink some cold refreshing beverages, and do not feel sorry for the calories you take in. If eating helps you feel better, then eat the sadness away!

TAKE SOME SOCIAL MEDIA BREAK

Frankly, many negative thoughts circulate on social media, and seeing these things would probably make your day even worse. Take some time off from all the negative things Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms give you. Instead, you could read a book or watch your favorite movie. That way, you can still be entertained even without scrolling through your social media accounts.  

ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR EFFORTS

Making some efforts to survive the day is quite difficult. So, it is important to acknowledge your courage to make it through the day. Be grateful to yourself for stepping out of your comfort zone and for doing things that you never imagined you could do. Acknowledge your efforts for being able to do even just a little something because this will help you be more motivated to work.

TAKE ENOUGH REST

It is essential to rest and get enough sleep when you are feeling down. Having enough hours of sleep can help in boosting your mood and your performance on the next day. Not having enough sleep could cause a lack of concentration and energy the next day. So, sleeping is essential because it will take all your worries away.
